Involve good people and they will find a role…


Most organizations create an organization chart, define roles for each box and then look for people to fit it. It is time that this is reversed. One needs to get the right people, create roles which suit them and build an organization around them. People are the greatest assets in any organization and they need to be in roles which utilizes all their skills, ensures their satisfaction, gives opportunities for their own personal growth and goals. The objectives of an organization has to however match the aspirations of these people. Empowering people with the organization objectives and letting them find their own way to achieve it is the best way to align a person to the organization. Dont sell salaries, designations, company status  to propesctive employees, instead sell the vision of the organization and see if they are interested in contributing to the same.

Management theory vs practice..


Management courses takes the student on a journey through an ideal organization with ideal people around an ideal world. A working organization is always facing uncertainties. The theory is based on people in an organization playing their role as defined to perfection.  While the concepts are fine, the theory fails in practice and so do the students in their initial years of working. This is because in the real world, a person’s performance is not only based on his knowledge and skills for the job but also his emotional status and attitude at any given point in time. This emotional situation affects his roles and others in the organization. A Good Manager identifies this in his team members early enough and takes preventive and/or  corrective actions to achieve his teams objectives.
